The Scouts were getting better at 'reading' rapids and steering between the rocks.  This was an example of a set of rapids that you didn't have any obvious V's because the water was too rolling.  Basically you just tried to avoid the big stuff sticking up out of the water and hoped that you could bull your way over anything just below the waves.
