This was one of the few rapids with a nice straightforward good V right up the middle.  A good V is one where you can go into the open part of the V.  A bad V is one where you end up hitting the bottom, or closed part of the V.  A bad V is caused by a rock or something else just below the surface of the water causing a disturbance shaped like a V.
